<thetext>I'd like to be able to hit a button to generate a bash script that will run the commands I need and dump a file that I can add to bblayers.

bash
takes $1 as name of bblayers stub to dump out

# variables to describe the layer and the layer dependencies

###
# clone and switch branch to the branch I picked on the website for the layer.
# Only reclone it if the layer isn't present . e.g. if I already did this for meta-python and am grabbing meta-networking don't re pull meta-openembedded...

###
# Do the same for the dependencies.

### walk the list and dump out a file with
BBLAYERS += " \
  <dir we dumped in>/meta-openembedded/meta-networking \
  <dir we dumped in>/meta-openembedded/meta-python \
...

This would be a very cli friendly way to grab a bunch of layers from layerindex.</thetext>

<thetext>Work is in progress on this.. There is no bash script, but a specific setup program that will setup a repo xml manifest based on the layer index.

Please wait until this work is published (hopefully soon) it may do what you want and more.</thetext>

<thetext>I think what is desired here is mostly covered by "bitbake-layers layerindex-fetch"

The rest of it will likely be covered -- in a standardized way -- by the new proposal:

<thetext>bitbake-setup is now under active development (and a functional version has been available since 5.3 whinlatter). However, no layerindex integration has been planned/discussed yet. It is advised to do any such integration in the wrynose LTS timeframe, when bitbake-setup has had more time to be used/developed by a much larger audience.

Moving to 6.99</thetext>
