<thetext>Now that wic is awesome, we can stop generating live hddimgs by default right?

This is the only place left that refers to it:

conf/machine/include/x86-base.inc:IMAGE_FSTYPES += "live"

Let's delete that line in 2.4.</thetext>

<thetext>This looks like a meta bug. However it lacks realistic 'Depends on' bugs.

It requires to finish bootfs implementation: bug 10073, implement support for installer for wic images(no bug filled yet), implement initrd support for wic(no bug filled yet) and much more important things that I'm not aware of.

bug 11278 doesn't seem to have anything to do with this one from my point of view.

So, my point is that this activity needs to be carefully designed, dependent bugs have to be filled and estimated. Currently we're very far from the final goal, I believe.

Adding Saul to cc as he may know much more about what it takes to get rid of live image type.

Please, provide your thoughts on this.</thetext>

<thetext>Agreed that we need to break the bug down more as this is a metabug.

Action taken to file the other bugs!</thetext>

    <thetext>Hi Ross,

The live image includes both of hddimgs and iso, if live is not supported,
do you mean iso image is gone with live?

The iso is a very polular image on mainstream distribution (such
as Fedora/Ubuntu). And it almost could be booted by all kinds simulator
(such as virtualbox or qemu).

Sometimes we need to boot image from virtualbox with comparing qemu.
I know wic.vmdk maybe an alternate for virtualbox, but unfortunately
virtualbox could not identify the wic.vmdk image.

I know wic is awesome for embedded linux, but iso is also helpful for
desktop related function (such as target installer anaconda, xfce)

    <thetext>Assigning to Anuj.

Now that we have installer images in wic I believe we're feature complete. Finally time to remove live from core?</thetext>

<thetext>Chee Yang sent patches to fix the only selftest left that relies on hddimg:

https://lists.yoctoproject.org/g/poky/message/11849

We should be able to make wic the default.</thetext>
