<thetext>In the Poky Ref Manual FAQ appendix we have the following:

"H.23. How do I use an external toolchain?

The toolchain configuration is very flexible and customizable. It is primarily controlled with the TCMODE variable. This variable controls which file to include (conf/distro/include/tcmod-*.inc).

The default value of TCMODE is "default". However, other patterns are accepted. In particular, "external-*" refers to external toolchains of which there are some basic examples included with the core. A user can use their own custom toolchain definition in their own layer (or local.conf directory) at the location conf/distro/include/tcmode-*.inc.

In addition to the toolchain configuration, you also need a correspoinding toolchain recipe file. This recipe file needs to package up any pre-built objects in the toolchain such as libgcc, libstdcc++, any locales and libc. An example is the external-csl-toolchain_2008q3-72.bb, which reuses the core libc packaging class to do most of the work."

I also have a newly re-written section in the section that talks about application development using the Yocto Project. The first sub-section titled "External Development Using the Meta-Toolchain" talks in general about using toolchains. Currently, there is no mention of TCMODE in this section. I can add information about the TCMODE variable to this section and also reference the FAQ entry.

A final point I can add is a glossary entry for the TCMODE variable to the glossary appendix, which currently has no entry for TCMODE.

Will these changes be acceptable for resolving this bug?</thetext>

> Solution is in the place.

I am trying to use the external toolchain external-csl2008q3 (setting toolchain TCMODE = "external-csl2008q3" in /meta-yocto/conf/distro/poky.conf) on qemuarm. When building with "bitbake core-image-minimal" on machine "qemuarm" I get dependency loops.</thetext>
