Load on the host system was variable during the tests, so that probably plays a factor here and if there's a timeout, increased load could occasionally push the duration to exceed it like we've seen in other bugs (e.g. https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15884) - The test suite also seems to use cmp for some tests, and the ptest image includes the busybox version by default, so taking the same approach of adding diffutils to the ptest RDEPENDS (like in 15884) might help here. Heavier loads make it seem more variable. Still testing.
