And the majority of of the .vmdk image consists of the source codes from DL_DIR. I had made a patch to remove ${DL_DIR$/git2_* tarballs to reduce the size of the .vmdk image. http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=cf6b3fb48286792272de0ae2c7f310e1cc66e899 It looks there is no obvious way to further reduce the size.
