We should switch to using proportional layout schemes, at this point it may or may not be easier to use Glade to build the GUI to save lots of setting up gtk.Box subclasses. Though I've usually erred on the side of hand coding such things the puccho GUI demonstrates that the use of Glade is certainly tenable. Note the Glade GUI designer outputs the more modern gtk builder format which we should use, rather than glade xml, if we go that route.
