For this, I followed the instructions here: http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom Once built, I installed the SDK by running angstrom-eglibc-i686-armv7a-vfp-neon-toolchain-qte-v2012.12.sh, which prompted me for a target directory. If I use a custom directory (says /foo), then qmake will report "Using Qt version 4.8.1 in /usr/local/oecore-i686/sysroots/i686-angstromsdk-linux/usr/lib", instead of /foo/....
