<thetext>I cannot downloads pdfs off-hand for offline or/and convenient reading instead of http browser reading or manual converting in here:

https://www.yoctoproject.org/documentation/current

It is quite a general practice in projects to ship those.</thetext>

<thetext>Just as an addition, I have been told that gerrit is not used in this project because it lacks proper offline reading support.

Now, imagine that without PDFs, but html, it is pretty hard to achieve the same for the documentation.</thetext>

<thetext>We have a low-priority, long-term goal to add PDF generation to our documentation process. It is not a high priority because very few people have asked for it.

This would be a great opportunity to help the Yocto Project. If you wanted to help with this feature, we need an XML transform from our current DocBook-based format to PDF. If this is something you would like to help with, please feel free to contact me directly.

As a workaround, all of the docs are available on your system when you download Poky, and you can read them in HTML locally with a browser.</thetext>

<thetext>Why it is not even a workaround is the fact that we do not download poky for our phones or even tablets.</thetext>

<thetext>I'd say that having PDF and ePub forms of the documentation available for downloading would be quite useful, in particular generation of PDF is non-trivial.

As Jeffrey said, any help with actually turning the DocBook source into PDF would be appreciated, sadly it's not a one-click thing.</thetext>

<thetext>Currently, if the user "makes" a YP manual (excluding the Quick Start and the mega-manual), they end up with a PDF version of the manual in the manual's documentation directory. So the mechanism is in place to have a PDF file for all but two of the manuals.

We need to decide how to distribute these PDF versions. It would be easy to place links in the Documentation page of the YP website that would allow a person to download a PDF manual. It would also be easy to include the generated PDF versions of manuals in the documentation folder in the poky repository.

<thetext>I vote for the former. I would like to download that on my mobile from the browser and read that while traveling etc without dealing with the low-level details, i.e. repository.</thetext>

    <thetext>Hi,

I am re-assigning this bug to Jefro as it requires changing the Docs "Current" page to include some linking mechanism to the PDF manual.

<thetext>In my opinion, it is better if the PDFs are downloadable off-hand without going to the repository. It makes them easier accessible.</thetext>
