<thetext>Bitbake ungracefully crashes when chrpath is not installed.

A warning or error should be displayed when trying to build without it.

    <thetext>Hi,

As far as I remember, this was a vanilla poky-clone on a new ubuntu installation, which was missing chrpath.

Hmm, ubuntu has this wierd behaviour of trying to locate missing binaries for you, i.e.
---
/media/sdb5/oel/meta-openembedded/meta-oe/recipes-support/pcsc-lite [(fb0f8dc...)]
$ banana
The program 'banana' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install emboss
---

I wonder if this might be affecting the sanity check.</thetext>

    <thetext>Well, it seems unlikely because the method sanity.bbclass uses is effectively bb.utils.which() which does its own path traversal/existence checking - it doesn't try running the command.

Which version of Ubuntu was this on?</thetext>

    <thetext>Well, I don't have the setup anymore.
So I guess if I'm alone seeing this, it can be closed.

    <thetext>I've been able to confirm this, however I'm fairly sure the sanity check has to have passed once previously to get into this situation, since the check for required utilities is done in the check_sanity_version_change() function which is only called when SANITY_VERSION changes or <builddir>/conf/sanity_info doesn't exist.

Did you by any chance have chrpath installed at one time and then remove it?</thetext>

    <thetext>As above, I'm pretty sure this is a result of us deliberately not running these sanity tests on every build (in order to save time) and chrpath being removed or otherwise becoming unavailable after the test was run on a prior build. If the issue can be reproduced in circumstances other than what I've described, please reopen.</thetext>
