Brian, See http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.3/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#fedora-packages and let me know what we are missing regarding packages that the host must have. Note that the section for Fedora (as well as all the distros) is arranged by categories for various packages. Look them them over and let me know if we are needing something else in "essential", etc. Thanks, Scott Still need some clarification on the packages per distro to move forward. Thanks, Scott Missing: essential: file cpio python esdk: xz ----------- Also, for opensuse (I can open a separate bug for that if you want me to): opensuse Missing: essential: python3 python3-curses tar esdk: which ---------- Hi Brian, See http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.3/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#fedora-packages for the Fedora "Essentials" package changes. See http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.3/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#opensuse-packages for the openSUSE "Essentials" package changes. Regarding what looks like a proposed new category for the extended SDK (esdk), I did not implement that. I have some further questions on it. I was talking with Paul Eggleton and he indicated that those packages would be on most systems. I don't understand the specifics but enough doubt was raised that I thought it might warrant some extra explanation? Thanks, Scott Hi, After discussing this with Brian a bit he explained (and I think Paul said this also to me) that if you make a bare bones container and install the packages from our list, the extended SDK won't work. Rather than introduce a separate category for packages, I think we could add "xz" and "which" to the existing essentials grouping. Comments? Scott I need some input on this bug. See Comment 5. I am setting it to NEEDINFO and putting the new target out to M4 since M3 cutoff is close. Please look at it and comment on my question. Thanks, Scott I concur that adding "xz" and "which" to the existing essentials grouping makes sense. Thanks Brian for confirming. See http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.3/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#required-packages-for-the-host-development-system in the ref-manual and http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.3/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html#packages in the Quick Start for the additional packages under each distribution's "Essentials" grouping. I am going to mark this bug as RESOLVED and set the doc flag to "done" as the changes are straight forward. Scott On Ubuntu and Debian:
STEPS:
$ sudo apt-get install gawk wget git-core diffstat unzip texinfo gcc-multilib \
build-essential chrpath socat cpio python python3 python3-pip python3-expect \
xz which libsdl1.2-dev xterm
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
install python3 and cpio so the esdk intaller successfully
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
install python3 and cpio so the esdk intaller successfully
NOTES:
oscar@oscar-ThinkPad-T540p:~/10854/build$ sudo apt-get install gawk wget git-core diffstat unzip texinfo gcc-multilib \
> build-essential chrpath socat cpio python python3 python3-pip python3-expect \
> xz which libsdl1.2-dev xterm
