log.do_configure with weird errors

Sometimes building gnupg I can witness:

configure:
***
*** It is now required to build with support for the
*** New Portable Threads Library (nPth). Please install this
*** library first. The library is for example available at
*** https://gnupg.org/ftp/gcrypt/npth/
*** (at least version 1.2 (API 1) is required).
***
configure: error:
***
*** Required libraries not found. Please consult the above messages
*** and install them before running configure again.
***

"configure" tries to detect npth via pkgconfig:

pkg-config --modversion npth

This fails, as there is no .pc file present
(Package npth was not found in the pkg-config search path.)

The gnupg has dependency on npth, so npth does get build.
However, digging into npth build, we see that "configure" contained some early errors (see the attached log), causing the above gnupg configure error.

I think we need to monitor the resource limits in some way.
