Description Daniel Stone 2018-04-02 05:41:20 UTC
When Mesa was upgraded to 10.1.3 in 2014, DRI3 was left disabled by default due to unspecified 'regressions'. I'm not sure what these were, but DRI3 has been the default upstream and in most distros I can think of (at least RHEL/Fedora, Debian/Ubuntu, SUSE, Gentoo, Arch, et al) for a very long time.

DRI2 now lacks capabilities compared to DRI3, particularly buffer modifiers which allow GPUs to use faster preferred formats for rendering, and is not very well tested upstream. This RPi bug has been around for a fair while, but slipped through unnoticed until someone tried OE/Yocto:

Please enable DRI3 by default. This might be worth documenting in the release notes; not sure.
