Description Ross Burton 2019-08-01 15:52:07 UTC
Some qemu machines use Cirrus graphics which is TERRIBLE.
Comment 1 Ross Burton 2019-08-01 16:24:51 UTC
Some context: https://www.kraxel.org/blog/2014/10/qemu-using-cirrus-considered-harmful/

That predates virtio drivers.

Plan:
1) Unify all boards to at least -vga=std, remove cirrus driver from oe-core. Needs CONFIG_DRM_BOCHS in the kernel.
2) See if virtio works, enable drivers on all platforms, use that.
3) If (2) fails, try vmware on platforms where vmware fails
Comment 2 Ross Burton 2019-08-01 18:23:58 UTC
Some incomplete prior art at poky-contrib:ross/virtio
Comment 3 Alexander Kanavin 2019-08-02 12:44:48 UTC
+1 from me: let's standardize on virtio (you do not need working virgl to have it).
Comment 4 Randy MacLeod 2019-08-08 14:38:56 UTC
Kevin, If you could do this before M3, that would be great. Let us know your plans and availability.
Comment 5 Alexander Kanavin 2019-08-12 15:44:44 UTC
Patch for step 1 sent:
https://lists.yoctoproject.org/pipermail/linux-yocto/2019-August/007877.html

Note that this enables bochs for qemux86(-64); it is already enabled for qemuarm(64) and qemurisc(32/64).

Once this merges and propagates to oe-core, we can drop the vmware/cirrus stuff.
Comment 6 Alexander Kanavin 2019-08-12 15:47:47 UTC
To clarify, that is a patch only for the kernel module enabling (CONFIG_DRM_BOCHS). Unifying drivers and cleanup still to do (once we are able to test the bochs).
Comment 7 Alexander Kanavin 2019-08-14 10:43:10 UTC
My apologies, but it is rather impolite to re-assign the task to someone else without asking them first, even if they did some work towards resolving it.
Comment 9 Armin Kuster 2019-10-21 15:10:08 UTC
it in zeus for sure.
Comment 10 Alexander Kanavin 2019-10-21 15:27:38 UTC
This is up to Ross, I am not sure what else could be done really.
Comment 12 Richard Purdie 2019-10-24 14:57:17 UTC
Given the above commit, issue resolved.
