Description Tong Lin 2011-08-25 22:58:27 UTC
in the adt-manual section 4.7, when installing OProfile, the document only descripes how to install oprofileui but not mentioned about installing oprofile. Therefore when click menu in ADT, it will report error. More information about installing oprofile should be added here.

Hi Tong,

It's not very clear to me regarding the oprofile installation that is missing. oprofile-server should be included in the target images and for our Eclipse plug-in remote tool invocation, we only need user to install oprofile-viewer on the host side. So what error you ran into regarding oprofile is not installed? Are you using the correct target image that contains oprofile?

If I did not install the oprofile-server in the host, when I click the menu in Eclipse, there is a dialog about the error message to let the user to install oprofile. All the images are built under the guide of Lianhao. The target image is correct.

I think what Tong said about the missing part in the manual was that it should be documented that the user should also install oprofile besides oprofileui on the host. So we should have oprofile-server installed on the target, and oprofile-viewer and oprofile installed on the host in order to make our plugin work.

Yes, this is right. It is to install oprofile not profile-server in host.

Hi Scott,

Can you add the following lines in adt manual regarding oprofile:

In order to convert the data from the sample format from the target to the
host OProfile version 0.9.4 of greater is required on the host.
Comment 6 Scott Rifenbark 2011-08-30 06:55:11 UTC
The OProfile item in the ADT Manual now reads as follows:

• OProfile: Selecting this tool causes the oprofile-server on the remote target to launch on the local host machine. The oprofile-viewer must be installed on the local host machine and the oprofile-server must be installed on the remote target, respectively, in order to use. You must compile and install the oprofile-viewer from the source code on your local host machine. Furthermore, in order to convert the target's sample format data into a form that the host can use, you must have oprofile-viewer version 0.9.4 or greater installed on the host. The oprofile-server is installed by default in the image.

You can locate both the viewer and server from http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/oprofileui/.

76b228c6024c62638382b5472b05cf5cc7a844ee is the commit for this fix.

Changed to resolved/fixed.

It should be "oprofile version 0.9.4 or greater" here.

> The oprofile-server is installed by default in the image.

I think oprofile-server is only installed by default in the "core-image-sato-sdk" .
