Description Joshua Lock - Disabled 2011-09-13 14:39:22 UTC
We implicitly require the users shell to be bash, going so far as to refuse to build for users of the dash shell.

Requesting people who don't use bash change their shell (particularly dash users) is off putting.

We shoudl strive to be POSIX shell compliant.

Requires running a build on a system using Dash with the sanity test disabled to work out where we are facing problems and then working through the issues.

Hopefully with Ubuntu having Dash for some time most of the Makefiles we use should be up-to-date.

This will be a two-phase process:

1) Ensure all of our core components (scripts/ meta/classes) are POSIX compliant and disable the dash sanity check. Merge any changes to a branch.
2) Have the wider team use this branch to run builds of their recipes and fix any issues.
Comment 3 Joshua Lock - Disabled 2011-11-01 11:59:34 UTC
Estimate only includes phase 1
Comment 4 Richard Purdie 2011-11-24 11:03:54 UTC
The bash check has been removed and builds on dash based systems are successful:
