I used this: https://stackoverflow.com/a/44763692/8672718 Stack Overflow answer to solve a problem I was having and, when I went to the manual to learn more about the variable (DIRFILES), I found out it is not there

I'm wondering whether we actually need DIRFILES since it isn't used anywhere in core and only two references in meta-oe where it is a value of "1" instead of a list which the code seems to expect.

I'd suggesting seeing if we can remove this.
