This was not the case on nanbield, I think it's changes introduced in OE-Core  

900129cbdf25297a42ab5dbd02d1adbea405c935 devtool: add support for git submodules

which collides with the source dir path manipulation from go.bbclass.

While there is a somewhat substandard patch merged on master to address this bug, it really needs a test case and likely some polishing before being backported.

This was resolved, as Randy mentioned a patch was merged to master back in 2024.
