Description Richard Purdie 2011-10-04 06:56:17 UTC
The key objective is that new/inexperienced users should be able to run a build and it should be able to work for them with minimal setup required.

People continue to report issues with setting up network access for the build system, particularly related to git. One idea was "Develop a git plugin which will fall back to tunneling through HTTP if the git:// interface will not work because it is blocked by a firewall and the correct proxy is not set up."

In theory our mirrors setup should mean builds over just http should work without touching more exotic protocols like git which often need special firewall setup. We need to figure out the cases this is failing in and if git is a problem look at other ways of directly addressing that problem.

This bug is to be used to track these issues if they are still present and drive this to a resolution.

We currently do proxy/network checking in bitbake which will send message to user if there's issue.
