Description Yoann Congal 2026-07-10 07:27:10 UTC
When importing a patch into yocto, how to handle trailers (Signed-off-by, ...) confuses contributors:

For example:
* https://lore.kernel.org/all/ak_xh2CM7n4X8_c_@mcrowe.com/
  ^ Doc is not clear that the contributor has to add its SoB on a patch they did not authored.
* https://lore.kernel.org/openembedded-core/20260703-glib-2-0-cve-2026-58016-wrynose-v1-1-46befa36c6d1@bootlin.com/T/#t
  ^ The upstream trailers must be preserved as important authorship information

And, somewhat related to that, for *backports*, I think the doc should suggest NOT editing the patch message and justifying changes between the upstream patch and the imported patch.
