Description Edwin Zhai 2011-11-04 04:04:34 UTC
Reduce the final disk image size

we need do:
1. identify and remove unnecessary recipes
2. tune features for big recipes, like kernel/glibc to reduce image
Comment 1 Edwin Zhai 2012-01-10 00:24:36 UTC
image size is low priority, performance is the key.
Comment 2 Shane Wang 2012-03-19 23:47:58 UTC
Edwin, Saul? Are we going to drop this, because I don't see anybody is working on this feature?
Comment 3 Shane Wang 2012-03-27 11:45:51 UTC
Give it to Dexuan because he is working on that.

Dexuan, can you update the decision about what we should put into 1.2 release from Saul and update its status for your recent task on build appliance?

Hi Saul, I think we would drop this bug (mark it as WON'T FIX)?
Now we're installing DL_DIR/ into the image and this mean we can tolerate a pretty bigger image size? :-)

Hi Saul, the finial .vmdk image can exceed 3G now.
And the majority of of the .vmdk image consists of the source codes from DL_DIR.

I had made a patch to remove ${DL_DIR$/git2_* tarballs to reduce the size of the .vmdk image.
http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=cf6b3fb48286792272de0ae2c7f310e1cc66e899

It looks there is no obvious way to further reduce the size.

So I think we can close the bug as RESOLVED?
Comment 6 Saul Wold 2012-05-10 21:41:56 UTC
As we are including additional space and the downloads dir in the image, and we are using vmdk to create the sparse disk image
