Some codes, like check git repo's latest tag or latest revision, are similar to fetch functionality in distrodata.bbclass, should be merged into fetcher of bitbake. Then we can use the API in fetcher instead of rewrite it.

I applied on top of bitbake (commit e24095f54c52a547c0462836586a5d716249036e) some older patches made by my former colleague Irina. Branch can be found on poky-contrib: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=mavram/fetcher2

As far as I'm concerned they are good to be merged.
Comment 2 Richard Purdie 2014-11-06 15:58:40 UTC
Anibal already has patches in progress for this (based on Irina's work).
Comment 3 Aníbal Limón 2014-11-06 16:07:09 UTC
I sent the patches to the bitbake-devel list.

Here is a branch with these patches,

latest_versionstring in git and wget was done at:

https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=7587877e5d683a30c2bd5e1ac1c4e327fac1ee1c

https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=6bb241a278135e760d50380fd3f7b0ff52414328

I saw that distrodata implements latest_versionstring in svn that isn't covered yet.

Hello Aníbal,

I would like to test this feature, but couldn't find a way by it's description. Can you please suggest a way to do it?

Regards,

Costin

Costin,

Distrodata is a class that generate report with recipe upstream info (version, etc) you can show the documentation here,

http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/current/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#ref-classes-distrodata

For test you should configure your local.conf with the settings exposed in the ref-manual and then run bitbake world -c checkpkg for generate checkpkg.csv in tmp/log/.
