Description Jim A 2012-04-17 17:26:01 UTC
when building meta-cedartrail from master, image core-image-cdv-media, which includes web-webkit, the application, when run on the target, has a few issues.

1. When selecting the button with the folder and the word 'Go' to get a line to enter a URL, the only text that is accepted for going to a site requires an HTTP:// or HTTPS://. i.e. intel.com does not work, but http://intel.com does. Not consistent with other browsers.
2. When you expand the drop arrow at the top left, none of the options seem to work. "Preference" was the critical one I got no response from.

Hi Jim A:

I want to reproduce this bug on my side.
The steps I want to reproduce are follow:
1 add layer "meta-intel" and "meta-cedartrail" to conf/bblayers.conf

2 add web-webkit to the task list like task-core-x11-sato.bb

3 run command "bitbake core-image-sato"

I don't know where is bb file generating image core-image-cdv-media. If I miss some steps or deviate far from right ways, Please correct me!

Thanks
Yan

In meta-cedartrail is a subdirectory, recipes-cdv-media with an images directory with the .bb files.

Hi Jim A,

I forgot an import problem that I don't have platform "cedartrail". I think if this bug only happen on this platform, then I will not fix this bug. I checked directory meta which included recipe web-webkit. Can I build an sato image including web-kit to reproduce this bugs? I will build this image and try to find this bug if possible.

Thanks
Yan

I will reproduce on qemux86 so it can be tested on the emulator. Only lines I'm changing are to enable the parallelizm options and add the line:

CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL = "web-webkit"

Then I'll bitbake core-image-sato. I expect this to work, but will post another comment either way.

The bug is independent of BSP, so if you can build a BSP with networking to the internet, you should be able to reprocduce. I'm trying it with qemux86, but I need to figure out how to configure the route or bridge on the host to allow the qemux86 machine to access the internet.

Hi Jim,

You could find the steps about how to access the internet on qemu in bug 1570 comment 15.
Comment 7 Jim A 2012-05-23 12:23:14 UTC
I just tested this web-webkit bug using runqemu qemux86 with core-image-sato using master branch. I added CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL = "web-webkit" to local.conf.
I used the trick mentioned in the previous comment: bug 1570 comment 15.

https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1570#c15

I could demonstrate that http:// is required for all URLs. i.e. intel.com will not work, but http://intel.com will work.

The basic problem is that Web is a very thin wrapper around WebKitGTK, with lots of missing functionality that you'd expect in a real browser.

I've been playing with Midori recently as a replacement -- my current branch is rather evilly a set of symlinks to my meta-oe checkout (yuck!) but I can re-create that later with proper files. Then you can build Midori yourself and see how much better it is!

I've a plan to refresh Sato (Project Shuku) and part of that is replacing Web with Midori.
Comment 9 Paul Eggleton 2013-08-30 10:46:06 UTC
Midori has now been integrated into OE-Core - can we drop web-webkit and then mark this as resolved?
Comment 10 Richard Purdie 2013-08-30 16:22:30 UTC
Please, lets remove it and get this one resolved...
Comment 11 Richard Purdie 2013-08-30 16:29:09 UTC
In fact I just removed it: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=156baf84e72158193d596158b53c4c5a42860bc9
Comment 12 Richard Purdie 2013-08-30 16:29:33 UTC
Mark as resolved
Comment 13 Scott Rifenbark 2014-03-21 21:28:24 UTC
This bug is quite old and I spoke with Paul Eggleton over it. It seems that there is no documentation component for it. I am setting the documentation flag to "No".
