Description Cristian Iorga 2013-04-02 14:45:03 UTC
Add a new target that will consist of a cut-down Build Appliance.
The objective is to have a virtualized development environment to use it with the Eclipse Bitbake Commander feature/component.

Build Appliance Mini will consist of:

1. A Linux virtual machine to be run under VMware Player.
2. The entire development environment needed by poky/bitbake
3. ssh/scp access

This is a basically a stripped down Build Appliance, without pre-installed poky repo and without Hob. Of course, X11 stack is also not needed.

This will decrease the size and requirements of the virtual machine, all while increasing the performance of the YP development environment (bitbake + poky).
Comment 1 Cristian Iorga 2013-04-02 14:47:20 UTC
This is just an improved version of how BA is used now in order to be able to develop custom embedded Linux distros/apps entirely on Windows using Eclipse ADT.
Comment 2 Saul Wold 2013-04-24 14:49:33 UTC
Regular BA meets the needs of the Windows eclipse ADT, so this is not a priority.
Comment 3 Cristian Iorga 2014-06-26 09:05:30 UTC
The virtualization solution has been switched to QEMU.
The initial implementation will run under Mac OS X.
Comment 4 Cristian Iorga 2014-06-26 09:06:45 UTC
During the initial phase a minimal Linux virtual machine with a poky build system contained within the VM will be implemented.
Comment 5 Cristian Iorga 2014-07-29 08:58:07 UTC
Implementation in progress.

Version controlled the works in:
https://github.com/otcshare/meta-yocto-vm-experiments

Put on hold for the time being, as there are better alternatives
being developed/implemented at this time.

Verified as per Juro's comments.
