Replacing:
MACHINE ??= "qemux86-64"

with:
MACHINE ??= "qemux86-64"#test

or
MACHINE ??= "qemux86-64" #test

will result in a parse error:
ERROR: Unable to parse conf/bitbake.conf: ParseError at /home/cornel/work/2poky/build/conf/local.conf:51: unparsed line: 'MACHINE ??= "qemux86-64" #test'

Comment 2 Richard Purdie 2013-06-20 15:37:12 UTC
I was worried we might support these in some contexts (e.g. bb files) but not others (conf files). My tests show we don't support inline comments in any context. I think this is a reasonable thing for the parser to do so am marking this as not a bug.

Setting to VERIFIED as per above comment.
