The issue seems to be generated by a gcc bug introduced in gcc 4.8.1 (everything is working correctly on 4.7.2). Our investigation points to the following gcc bug.
http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=57717#c1 (gcc ICE when building for gnuspe targets where -mfloat-gprs=double is used. -mfloat-gprs=single works fine) 

The similar behavior is observed for this bug: ICE for -mfloat-gprs=double, compilation OK for “single”.

The gcc bug has a partial fix but the bug fix status is currently “UNCONFIRMED”. This partial fix has been already introduced in the upstream poky, it fixes the original issue, but it doesn’t fix this issue.
