10 times beagleboard boot up log

Poky: master:3dee534f1e25109e0bdb681de0746c336f4b8840

Test steps:
1. bootup beagleboard, modify /etc/inittab and set default runlevel to 3

########
id:3:initdefault
########

2. reboot it, and edit "kernel" line and add "psplash=false text" at the end, then boot it.
3. check the bootup info, sometimes, it will show Internal error, then use dmesg| grep error could find some error info during the booting.

I did this test 10 times, and totally match 7 times "Internal error", all of them are Oops 5 and 817:

Internal error: Oops: 5
Internal error: Oops: 817

Comment 1 Bruce Ashfield 2013-07-24 19:32:06 UTC
Simar: can you grab this.

Note: I'm able to boot the board fine with the latest, so I suspect a h/w
issue.

If you can confirm a 3.4 and then 3.8 boot, this can be closed.
Comment 2 Ning Zhang 2013-07-26 02:24:04 UTC
Hi,
I reused a 3.4 kernel image(20130615, kernel: 3.4.36) image to do this test, i reboot around 10 times, did not occur any "Internal error" issue.

So i think this is not a hardware issue.
Thanks.

retest it on 3.4.36 kernel, no this error
Comment 4 Bruce Ashfield 2013-07-26 03:34:12 UTC
In the same vein, I can boot the 3.4.52 kernel as many times as I like
on my board, and never see the issue. So clearly something is different
with your board than mine, we can't fix it, if we can see the problem.
Comment 5 Simarpreet Singh 2013-07-26 14:42:56 UTC
Just to keep everyone level, I have two BeagleBoards to test with right now. So far I've tested 3.4 on both of them and there haven't been any issues whatsoever. I've repeated this multiple times but haven't been able to reproduce this at all on 3.4 yet.

I will further test out 3.8 on both of them today to see how they behave.
Comment 6 Simarpreet Singh 2013-07-31 13:47:26 UTC
Update: I've built and booted various 3.8.x so far. Although there are other issues with bootup, this bug in specific doesn't manifest itself on 3.8.x. Still trying to see if I can reproduce this with the latest kernel.
Comment 7 Simarpreet Singh 2013-08-01 21:31:15 UTC
Update: So it seems that I was able to reproduce this issue on 3.8.13 and also fix it. I now just need to narrow it down from a bunch of changes I made to the specific one that's causing this. Should have a fix by EOD tomorrow if everything goes well.
Comment 8 Simarpreet Singh 2013-08-15 02:07:53 UTC
Update: Issue exists in ehci-omap driver. The defconfig for omap2 has EHCI disabled by default so issue doesn't show up there. Currently looking at both testing 3.10 and upstream 3.4 driver.
Comment 9 Simarpreet Singh 2013-08-16 15:08:49 UTC
Update: It seems that this issue will get fixed in the 3.10 update when it comes to linux-yocto. Tested it out with 3.10 on linux-yocto-dev and works just fine on both omap2plus_defconfig and stock yocto configuration.
Comment 10 Simarpreet Singh 2013-09-19 01:19:20 UTC
The changes for beagleboard should be in 3.10 kernel that currently exists. Can someone test this again as I don't have access to a beagleboard anymore.
Comment 11 Yi Zhao 2013-09-25 07:35:15 UTC
This issue doesn't happen on 3.10 kernel. Tested with 1.5 M5 rc4.
Comment 12 Simarpreet Singh 2013-10-18 21:45:28 UTC
Fixed with the 3.10 uprev.
