Test reference: https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/Transcript:_Using_the_Yocto_BSP_tools_to_create_a_meta-intel_BSP

Test steps:
1. Create a new intel-x86-64 bsp "myintelbsp"
2. Added meta-intel and the new bsp into bblayers.conf
3. bitbake core-image-sato, it will generate a "hddimg" image
4. burn the image to a usb disk. "dd if=core-image-sato-myintelbsp-20120317164555.hddimg of=/dev/sdb"
5. use the usb disk to boot up a x86-64 bit intel PC.

The X could not be started. It has below error messages:

Start XServer
mkdir: can't create directory '/var/lib/dropbear': Read-only file system
...
Staring Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon: avahi-daemon
..fail!

Many services could not be started because "Read-only file system"

I found Ross Burton committed a new patch: "Revert "initrdscripts: mount / as read-only when live-booting"", maybe this could fix this issue. But the commit did not merge to master branch now.

Thanks.
