Additional feedback from users indicates that a key other than F2 needs to be an option so it can be triggered over a serial connection. Possibly "Enter" or "Tab", maybe "B" or "M". we added "Press <F2>" prompt message for serial console and displayer. Please note that we need to configure host terminal to make sure the type of terminal is ANSI when pressing <F2> to enter setup page. Which image is this available in? I can test the terminals. Darren, you can test it with 8/13 image drop. This is visible over HDMI, but I do not see anything over the serial console indicating this. Also, we need a key other than F2 that can be used over serial. Actually We added the Actually We added the "Press <F2>" prompt message to serial console just for debug version. the release version don't have the message. the <F2> key is common to enter bios menu. I think it is currently not necessary to add other key. I opened #6695 to track the serial console issue, but yes we *DO* need something there as well as on the HDMI screen. Generally speaking if something is going to be displayed on the HDMI screen something roughly equivalent needs to be shown on the serial console, up to and including the 'F2' mentioned here, and some sort of indication that there's a timeout going on screen. I also concur we need something other than 'F2' for the console, as trying to hit 'F2' from a serial console is an absolute pain, and not terribly user friendly. Maybe <shift>+f+2 during that message? I can confirm this from the HDMI side though. As soon as the serial console side is resolved we can close this. Need wording for output and the alternate 'interrupt key'. I think this is related to #6695 I think we want to add <DEL> (Delete) key and have the wording go something like: To enter the firmware press 'F2' or <DEL> Timing out in 5/5s Timing out in 4/5s Timing out in 3/5s Timing out in 2/5s Timing out in 1/5s Timing out in 0/5s <boot continues> No need to print something every second is there? To enter the firmware press 'F2' or <DEL> (5s timeout) Seems like it should be fine. The message should match what is on the HDMI message, does it say "enter the firmware" ? Seems like, Press <F2> or <DEL> to enter Setup (5s timeout) ... is more natural. These are firmware terms though, so the firmware folks should propose the final strings. The interrupt key should be delete. Only need prompt at start of "Press <F2> or <DEL> to enter Setup" Ticking prompt: countdown, or dots optional (nice bet not necesary) I can fix this bug in 0.74 Binary. You can test 0.74 Binary. To be clear, since 0.74 is sitting waiting to go out, are you suggesting that this will be fixed in the 0.74 release, or in a release after 0.74, as my understanding is the 0.74 release has a golden image and obviously shouldn't be changed at this point? Sorry, what i meant to say this bug has been fixed in 0.74 golden image, you can test with 0.74 golden image. I just tested with 0.74 and I do not see anything over the serial console indicating I can press a key to enter the BIOS menu. I also tested pressing DEL during the 7 or seconds of nothing, and it did enter the BIOS menu. This does not appear to be fixed in the 0.74 Firmware Release. Under what circumstances was this tested? Reassigning to Tim for next steps. As this is displayed over HDMI, I will close this bug and leave Bug 6695 to track the lack of a message over the serial console. |
