Description Laszlo Papp 2014-08-11 09:43:12 UTC
I was looking for an option like this because we use gdbserver on the target as opposed to the full-blown gdb due to space constraints. As such, we do not need the source files shipped by the default foo-dbg packages. There seems to be an option for this, but it is not documented. It would be nice to make a brief note on it. Here is the commit that introduced the change:

http://lists.openembedded.org/pipermail/openembedded-core/2013-March/075836.html

I am not sure where to add it in the manual (probably debugging section and/or package.class?). Either way, the content is simple: if one specifies this as PACKAGE_DEBUG_SPLIT_STYLE = 'debug-without-src', the source files will not be added to the foo-dbg package for installation. This is useful when using gdbserver due to space constraints (e.g. desperately small flash size).

Hi,

I have made some additions to the dev-manual and the ref-manual to handle this issue. In the ref-manual, I created a new variable entry for PACKAGE_DEBUG_SPLIT_STYLE. In the dev-manual I added a note in the area that talks about saving space to point out that you can save more space by excluding the source and then referenced into the variable.

Here are the sections:

http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7/ref-manual/ref-manual.html#var-PACKAGE_DEBUG_SPLIT_STYLE

http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#platdev-gdb-remotedebug

Please check them out and let me know of any issues.

Thanks,
Scott
