Description Costin 2015-01-21 09:48:26 UTC
Hello,

Tried to do tests as usual on Atom PC (Intel Atom N455 @1.66 GHz CPU)for core-image-sato-sdk-genericx86 and noticed the eth interface is not present. It is not mapped in kernel eigther, because it is not present in /sys/class/net.
poky hash: d9d5b8b499af3ae01a1e33d0d3969c54c2d4ab1b

Attached are: dmesg, messages, boot and result of ifconfig command.

Regards,

Costin

I'm overloaded with issues right now, so sending this nitin's way. This may or
may not be x86 specific .. but we can start under that assumption.

Which hardware platform are you seeing this on?
Comment 4 Nitin Kamble 2015-01-22 18:02:32 UTC
what is the output of lspci ?
Comment 5 Nitin Kamble 2015-01-23 01:11:13 UTC
I built a genericx86 image, and tried booting it on emenlow. And both network and sound are working fine.

So I am not able to reproduce the issue here. Possibly is a platform specific issue. And without the affected hardware, I can not do much from here.

Alex, Costin,
You have been mentioning the processor, while I am asking about the platform. What board are you testing it on?

let me try again when the AB is again up. with e-Menlow and more hw.Currently I can confirm the bug on the AtomPC specified by Costin (lenovo s10-3t).

I have tried the image on the NUC and works fine.

Hi Nitin, didn't realise that. We tested on Lenovo S10-3 HW.

The target has this ethernet controller:

Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

And it uses the r8169 driver. That driver is enabled in the kernel configuration as seen below:

CONFIG_R8169=m

It's not clear why the driver is not working on the target. Can you also provide the lsmod output? and also try running this command on the target:

modprobe r8169

Thanks,
Nitin

Further,
The target has this wifi controller:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

And it uses the brcmsmac driver. And this driver is also enabled in the kernel configuration as seen below.

CONFIG_BRCMSMAC=m

Is this driver loaded on the target. the lsmod output will show that. If the driver is loaded then possibly it is missing the firmware.

What happens when you do
modprobe brcmsmac

Does it gets loaded, do you see anything in the the "ifconfig -a" output?

Bruce,
I do not have the hardware here to debug. I have done the debug without the hardware. You can use the results to debug on the hardware.

Hi Costin,
As you have the hardware. I am assigning the bug back to you. Try following the suggestions I have given here.

Thanks,
Nitin

Hello,

I retested with latest master and the issue is not present anymore. All expected LAN card work (DHCP and manual). I used same hardware as initially: Lenovo S10-3
