Error when Build System is selected

When I try to configure Yocto Eclipse Plugin with Build system derived toolchain it reports error as below

"Specified toolchain directory does not contain a toolchain generated with bitbake meta-ide-support"

Please find the snapshot of the same with the error.

If with the same path if we select Standalone pre-built toolchain it works (snapshot attached).

This issue has been observed for all version of the Plugin delivered i.e. Juno / Kepler and the one for Luna.

Hi Abhinav,

For the system derived toolchain, can you try to point to the build folder, tmp? It should recognise the architecture in the "target architecture"

For the Sysroot, you may want to try $bitbake -c populate_sdk and then point to the sysroot

I already tried that if you see the snapshots its pointing to my tmp directory of the build path. Below is the directory listing of the same.

$ pwd
/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release/tmp

[abhinav@localhost tmp]$ ls -lrth
total 160K
-rw-rw-r--. 1 abhinav abhinav 64 Apr 10 11:16 saved_tmpdir

drwxr-xr-x. 7 abhinav abhinav 4.0K Apr 13 18:27 sysroots

But still I get the same error. But if I select Standalone mode it works.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Hello Abhinav,

As previously mentioned, if you are using "Build System Derived Toolchain", your "Toolchain Root Location" needs to be:

/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release

and the "Sysroot Location"

/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release/tmp/sysroots/t1040rdb

Then in the "Target Architecture" drop down menu you should see:

ppce5500-fsl-linux

Please let me know if this still does not work for you.

Hi,

I presumed that the path need to be starting with tmp directory as Bitbake will build all the stuff in tmp directory.
So the toolchain environment file is present under tmp directory so the final path is as below

"Toolchain Root Location" is set as

/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release/tmp

and the "Sysroot Location"

/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release/tmp/sysroots/t1040rdb

In this case I get the error that it didn't build using meta-ide-support. But in case if I select Standalone SDK option then it can identify the toolchains path so not sure where the path it look for Build system derived toolchain.

Thanks,
Abhinav

Is the target architecture detected (e.g. ppce5500-fsl-linux
) if the top level build directory is selected

/home/abhinav/bitbake/QorIQ-SDK-yocto/build_t1040rdb_release

and the "Build System Derived Toolchain" checkbox is ticked?
Comment 7 Abhinav 2015-04-22 07:04:49 UTC
Yes,

It works and it can identify the tool chain when we select top level directory for the tool chain path.

Thanks,
Abhinav

Great.. We'll add this to the documentation as it might be a bit unclear.

Hi,

I am having difficulty understanding where the docs need updated for this case. We have section in adt-manual that tells how to build out the toolchain as part of the build directory. The section is http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7.1/adt-manual/adt-manual.html#using-the-toolchain-from-within-the-build-tree. That says that when you run 'bitbake meta-ide-support' you build the toolchain and it goes into the /build/tmp directory.

There is a section in the dev-manual that tells how to select the toolchain when you are using Eclipse. You can read that at http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/1.7.1/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#configuring-the-cross-compiler-options. The bulleted items "Selecting the Toolchain Type" and "Point to the Toolchain" state that the toolchain is part of the Build Directory, which is true. Instructions for pointing to the toolchain say "the path you provide for the Toolchain Root Location field is the Build Directory." It does not say to provide the /build/tmp directory.

If this is not correct, please tell me where I need to adjust the text.

Thanks,
Scott
