I spoke with Michael Halstead about being able to edit the yoctoproject.org site pages and he set me up. I have yet to be able to actually find a way to edit a page. Things have changed on the look of the UI for doing this and I can't find my way in. I need to talk with Michael again and get access to the actual editing area. Hi Juro, I am able to make changes to this documentation now on the Build Appliance. So I have looked at the landing page for Virtual Box (https://www.virtualbox.org/). Looks like we would need a whole need section in the yoctoproject site that would be similar to what we have for VMware ("Setting Up and Running the Build Appliance for VMware"). I don't know the details for running under Virtual Box. Do you have any steps for doing this? Once I have that information, I can update the page. Thanks, Scott (In reply to comment #2) > Hi Juro, > > I am able to make changes to this documentation now on the Build Appliance. > So I have looked at the landing page for Virtual Box > (https://www.virtualbox.org/). I changed the status from NEEDINFO to ACCEPTED as the bug (enhancement) ended up on my desk. Juro, Bug 8072 and 8073 are different right? The steps in Bug 8073 are not the steps you mentioned here you were trying to dig up in Comment 4 right? Thanks, Scott (In reply to comment #5) > Juro, > > Bug 8072 and 8073 are different right? This bug/enhancement (8072) basically needs to elaborate on steps how to run Build Appliance using Virtual Box (preferably on Windows). I have to create new screen-shots, as both Virtual Box and Build Appliance went through some changes. The most important issue is (still), that Build Appliance disk image (VMDK file) must be mounted using SATA interface. Virtual Box defaults to IDE, which would fail to boot the Build Appliance image. Thanks Juro, I will look for some updated steps here in the bug when you get them. Scott Created attachment 3221 [details]
screenshots
Hi Scott, I attached bunch of screenshots. You should be able to reproduce the steps on Windows and Linux. Juro, See https://www.yoctoproject.org/documentation/build-appliance-manual and look over the new section and the modified introduction. All I did in the introduction was define a new term "VirtualBox". I fabricated the steps based on the screenshots you provided. I am unclear as to how you wrap up the procedure for booting an image. Please review the steps and see if I have them correct. I would stress in point 17 not to use the default (an already existing) IDE controller but to add SATA controller. It is tempting to attach the disk drive to the IDE controller, but it would not boot. Once the Vbox image boots, user can readily run bitbake using Terminal <2>, i.e. $ bitbake core-image-minimal Juro, I updated steps 17 and 22 (see https://www.yoctoproject.org/documentation/build-appliance-manual) and let me know if we are good now. Thanks, Scott Worked directly with Juro to iterate on these changes... we are good now. I am closing the bug and resetting doc flag to "Done". thanks, Scott |
