I ran into some build issues on Fedora 22 which may or may not be relevant. When building newlib, "configure" checks if we are using a cross-compiler. The test consists of building a simple a.out and trying to run it. If the a.out fails to run, then it is assumed either the compiler is busted or we are using a cross compiler. So, for example, running an a.out built by a arm cross-compiler should result in an error: ./a.out: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error However, Fedora 22 is trying to be smart and realizes a.out is built for arm so it tries to run a.out in arm qemu. After this "configure" will never terminate, there will be no error code nor any error message, the system appears to be locked. I know, "newlib" is not build by AB, but there may be other utilities that use "configure" in the same manner to detect cross-compilers. So I would try to uninstall native Fedora 22 qemus to see if it helps. The hardware running Fedora 22 has been retired. New hardware running Fedora 23 will be online soon. I can't comment on the issue Juro has documented but this hardware problem has been resolved. verified: since hardware was changed and fedora22 retired we can close this. |
