While at ELCE, I sat down with one of the OE contributors to look at one of their builds, which I'd run with Toaster. While looking at the build data, we realised that the recipe dependency information was incomplete: it was missing the package dependencies specified in the image recipe file with CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL. You can see them here

Currently, Toaster displays only build dependencies for recipes (which are always other recipes), and runtime dependencies for packages (which are always other packages). But in order to fully be able to unravel why a certain package was installed in an image, we also need to display any dependencies between recipes and packages, and reverse dependencies between packages and recipes. 

According to Paul, in order to do so Toaster will need to collect and store variable information for the image scope (we currently only collect information for the global scope).

For some background information, this is the image and data that prompted this feature request.

1. Build gnuradio-demo-image from the meta-sdr layer using Toaster (with the master release). You will need the following layers in your configuration

openembedded-core
meta-xilinx
meta-oe
meta-sdr
meta-filesystems
meta-networking
meta-python

Set the DISTRO to 'nodistro', and add the following variable

DISTRO_FEATURES_append

with value

opengl x11 

You will need to type an space before 'opengl'

2. Once the build is done, in the list of packages installed, search for mariadb and in the list of results, check the reverse dependencies of 'libmysqlclient'. From those, select 'php-cgi'. 

The reverse dependencies of php-cgi are empty, but in the recipe file at

you can see that the image file appends 'php-cgi' to CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL. 

The OE contributor expected to see the gnuradio-demo-image recipe listed as a reverse dependency of the php-cgi package.

forgot one step you'll need to run the gnuradio-demo-image build: set the machine to zedboard-zynq7
