For "devtool search", and where you want the pcdeps/shlibdeps information for more than just the packages shipped out of the box in the image, it would be useful if you could include the pkgdata (i.e. what gets populated by do_packagedata) for a wider list of recipes, i.e. world or some subset of that specified by the distro. Naturally this means these recipes need to be built first, but it also means we need to have the means of bringing those into the extensible SDK as well.

The current status is that unfortunately it pulls in not just the sstate packages for do_packagedata, but do_populate_sysroot, do_package_write_rpm etc. which unreasonably increases the size of the SDK. I need to figure out where the dependency is that causes those to enter the SDK as well.

The logic may help to implement that yes, though you'd be using it in a different way.
