I couldn't see an obvious way to do this when reading the dev manual section on wic and the built in kickstart help.

I'd like to be able to create a partition of a set size and number/position but not specifcy a mount point. This is to enable ChromeOS style setups where there are two root partitions, one active and one passive, and thus only one need be mounted at a time.

If you don't want your partition to be mounted you shouldn't specify mountpoint in your .wks file. Please check if it works for you.

Hi Ed, I was planning to update this report to that effect. That is I tried specifying a partition without a mountpoint and it seems to work.

I think we can update the documentation to make this possibility clearer, i.e the dev manual states

" The mntpoint is where the partition will be mounted and must be of one of the following forms:

    /path: For example, /, /usr, and /home

swap: The partition will be used as swap space."

https://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.0/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#command-part-or-partition

That section doesn't make it clear at all that the mntpoint is optional.

I realise, rereading it this morning, that the built in help (wic help kickstart) *does* indicate that the partition is optional by surrounding that argument with <> — "part <mountpoint>" — but feel it would be useful to emphasise this in the prose too.

Yep, that makes sense to me. Are you willing to do that?

BTW <mountpoint> doesn't mean that mountpoint is optional, so it makes sense to use [<mountpoint>] and explicitly mention in the help and documentation that this parameter is optional and what would happen if it's not used.

Fix is integrated into the Poky repo.
