systemd 229 has an undeclared dependency on libgcrypt header files and libraries. This means if the gcrypt PACKAGECONFIG is disabled, it can fail to find the libgcrypt header files and also fail to link when building the systemd recipe.

Tested using OE-core 092984669d8590627cfb188a0aa00244e22c4671.

Upstream has fixed this in https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/2905.  Maxin, would you have the time to see if this can be trivially backported to oe-core?
