This was intentional: commit 949734502f9daf56a7ca5e294df762d0e583e4f1 Author: Philip Balister <philip@balister.org> Date: Mon Jun 1 16:17:22 2015 -0400 packagegroup-core-tools-profile.bb: Remove oprofile. Oprofile functions duplicate perf. Since perf is easier to use drop oprofile from the core-tools-profile package. Also, the oprofile-ui package opens a port on the device. removing this package reduces a possible security issue for devices with profiling tools. So I guess we'll need to update the manual.
I just saw what you said mentioned as well in the manual[1], but there is still the oprofile example here[2] and various references to tools-profile, which claim the oprofile is still part of it like:
"tools-profile: Installs profiling tools such as oprofile, exmap, and LTTng. For general information on user-space tools, see the "User-Space Tools" section in the Yocto Project Application Developer's Guide."
and
"To use OProfile, you need an image that has OProfile installed. The easiest way to do this is with "tools-profile" in the IMAGE_FEATURES variable."
