Description brian avery 2016-05-13 21:19:05 UTC
This needs design: we should consider showing the tasks currently being
executed like in Knotty.

Josh also suggests:"even listing "x of y tasks complete" might help?"
One thought:
hover over progress par pops up has overlay window showing running tasks.

Moving to M4, as showing the running tasks will require additional work.

Here are my thoughts about the various levels of implementation and their cost/benefit.

1) You just want to know that there is progress

In this case the "x of y tasks complete" summary would be sufficient and be much finer detail than the current "percent complete" display.

This is simple logic, and the output could be contained in the current progress bar.

This is my preferred implementable.

2) We can show what just got completed.

This would be a including the name of the task that just got completed in addition to the "x of y completed" message, and would give a sense of what bitbake is working on.

This is simple logic, and the output could be contained in the current progress bar.

3) We can show what the hold ups are

We could indicate which (n number of) tasks are taking a long time. In practice, the kernel unpack and compile will always be on the list, but we could include a few other long runners.

This would require some logic, plus it would require several lines of display.

This would be very nice for the new clone progress bar, since it can indicate which clones are taking a long time.

4) We could show the whole knotty level task display

This would be very fancy, and would require many lines of display. This seems overkill for Toaster, and would result in a lot of traffic (though we could throttle the updates to once every few seconds).

Bulk move from 4.99 or 0.00 to 5.99
