strace ptest log

Using oe-core, on HEAD = 6f6a6bbac6 but likely any commit since sometime in 3.0
Build core-image-minimal with conf/local.conf containing:

PASS: chown.gen.test
SKIP: chown32.gen.test
PASS: chroot.gen.test
[ 16.451189] capability: warning: `caps' uses deprecated v2 capabilities in a way that may be insecure
[ 16.452897] capability: warning: `caps' uses 32-bit capabilities (legacy support in use)
[ 17.067693] futex_wake_op: futex tries to shift op by -849; fix this program
[ 17.068928] futex_wake_op: futex tries to shift op by -849; fix this program
...
[ 17.083682] futex_wake_op: futex tries to shift op by -518; fix this program

...

Full log attached.

The warning is from linux.git/kernel/futex.c -- commit e78c38f6bdd90
and it seems that the kernel developers think that strace should be fixed.
I can reproduce the problem on strace.git/master on my Ubuntu-19.10 distro so
I think this is just a tracking defect for YP.

I'll work with the strace developers to fix the bug or at least report the issue.

Comment 2 Ross Burton 2022-01-28 18:04:14 UTC
Randy: did you speak to upstream about this?
Comment 3 Randy MacLeod 2022-01-28 19:22:25 UTC
Ross, No, sadly I haven't.

I did. https://github.com/strace/strace/issues/142

Commented on https://github.com/strace/strace/issues/142 to see if there's a middle ground.
Comment 6 Randy MacLeod 2023-05-08 14:39:46 UTC
Neither the upstream kernel or strace devs seem to be interested in fixing this annoyance so I'm closing the defect.
