Description Ross Burton 2012-11-05 13:10:26 UTC
The GL stack isn't ideal and needs work. Mainly based on the discussion on oe-core:

== Unambiguous package names

No GL stack should result in for example a "libgl.ipk" when Debian-renaming is enabled. The ross/mesa branch on poky-contrib has a commit to make Mesa's packages have a -mesa suffix, even when debian-renaming. This needs a test. The same should be done to the drivers in meta-intel but for now they are bundled into a single package so the renaming isn't a problem. Finally dig into the bigger non-Intel BSPs and prod them to do the same - for example meta-ti.

== EGL/GLES everywhere

Mesa should always build EGL and GLES drivers. At the moment this is a x86-specific override, so make this generic. The package names being unique will resolve the problems that this originally caused.

== More virtual/ build depends

We need a virtual/foo build dependency for every variation of GL, not just virtual/libgl. Mesa provides everything, so it should provide virtual/libgl virtual/libegl virtual/libgles1v irtual/libgles2. The EMGD drivers provide EGL and GLES1/2, there's a patch in meta-intel-contrib:ross/emgd which needs testing. The same needs to be done to cdv-pvr-driver. All users of virtual/libgl should be verified that the dependencies are actually correct. Finally, mail oe-core/oe-devel/BSPs to inform them of these new dependencies.

== Rename mesa-dri to mesa

mesa-dri is a artefact of mesa-xlib existing, which doesn't anymore. mesa-dri should be renamed to mesa. It's expected that meta-intel will soon gain it's own packaging of mesa as the binary drivers have very strict requirements, so coordination there will be needed.

As a reference, the work Collabora did which is related to both this and Wayland is here:

== Unambiguous package names

Done.

== EGL/GLES everywhere

Done.

== More virtual/ build depends

Done.

== Rename mesa-dri to mesa

Not done. Renaming bug to reflect this.
Comment 3 Ross Burton 2013-01-22 15:29:47 UTC
To ease migration problems, the only generated packages that contains mesa-dri are mesa-dri-dev and mesa-dri-dbg. We can maintain (R)PROVIDES for these names.
Comment 5 Stoicescu Cornel 2013-03-27 09:41:19 UTC
Verifying this enhancement in put on hold until bug 4130 is resolved.

Please investigate if this feature caused the bug mentioned above.
Comment 6 Laurentiu Palcu 2013-03-27 09:43:15 UTC
#4130 was caused by 88fa952b7c36c1d3375d0b1cbd9879f61def5b25 and the fix is already on the ML.
