Tested in master:f36926a264190e6202830e8520b41b30ae77ea43

1) set MACHINE = "qemux86-64"
2) "bitbake core-image-sato"
3) runqemu qemux86-64 core-image-sato
4) When psplash appears, press ALT+f1

Notice error:
"
Starting udev
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
"

Note: The image boots to command line.

Fix was already sent on the oe-core ML.
