Description Alexandru Georgescu 2012-11-15 15:25:26 UTC
Since the Eclipse Plugin in Windows is on progress, it should have the proper documentation.
Comment 1 Scott Rifenbark 2013-03-20 19:48:06 UTC
What is the status of this development? Is the plug-in finished? I don't have any information on how this works or the context of it. Is this plug-in for Windows users that have Eclipse on their development systems and want to use Yocto from within the IDE?

Is the development environment and UI all the same for a Windows user running Eclipse and using the YP as it is for a Linux user running Eclipse and using YP?

Is the only thing the user has to differently here is load the Windows plug-in verses the plug-in we currently document in the dev-manual?

Thanks,
Scott

Ioana, Jessica

Can you provide the answers to Scott regarding the eclipse-plugin for Windows?

Thanks,
Alex.
Comment 3 Ioana Grigoropol 2013-03-27 12:58:07 UTC
Hi Scott,

The plugin implementation is finished and pushed to jzhang/windows-build branch.
This implementation is destined to replace the current implementation of Bitbake Commander project at some point in time, with the addition that now a Bitbake project can be created from both Linux and Windows machines but the real location of the project can be either local(for Linux host), or remote(Linux or Windows host).
This new implementation allows users to create BB projects in Eclipse in repositories that do no reside on the same machine, in order to enable them to use Yocto repositories, create recipes, etc.
Basically, the functionality stays the same, with some small changes in the interface to allow the user to choose the type of connection and service provider to use when creating a new project: Local or RSE.
The whole idea behind this enhancement was to maintain all the functionalities of the bitbake plugin, but add the possibility of using Eclipse as a simple "viewer" that does not have a Yocto repository locally. Due to this aspect,
All functionalities that are currently available on master branch remain the same in this implementation.
As an exception, for the moment, the single functionality that is not available for Windows host is Project->Launch Hob, which is targeted by another enhancement.
At this moment though, this implementation depends on the upstream (org.eclipse.tm) to accept a patch that enables remote running of commands, and thus needs to use a local version of this plugin with the corresponding patch.
Due to this aspect, the headless build also fails for this branch.

Thanks,
Ioana

Since we shift eclipse windows focus and the final delieries will be in 1.5, push this bug to 1.5 accordingly
Comment 5 Scott Rifenbark 2015-02-09 23:50:46 UTC
Noting that this has now moved out to the 1.9 release.

Hi,

I am looking at Comment 3 and Comment 4 and they are quite old. Where are we with this feature? Is there more recent information that I can use for investigating the doc changes?

Thanks,
Scott

Okay - what is the deal with this bug? It is ancient... Is it still applicable?

The new eclipse-crops plugin is the current target for Windows (and Mac) support. No work has occurred on this windows branch for years. If someone in the community wants to update that branch to be current, they can reopen the bug.

Hi,

Although I don't own this bug, I did reset the documentation flag to "No".
