Tom, I suspect this is a bad build tree or a need for a linux-yocto -c clean, but would you see if you can reproduce or if you see anything wrong here?
Comment 3 Tom Zanussi 2011-04-15 08:34:44 UTC
Reproduced with n450 poky-image-minimal-live:

| install: cannot stat `/usr/local/test/intel-bsp/build/tmp/sysroots/n450/kernel/bzImage': No such file or directory
| ERROR: Function 'build_boot_bin' failed (see /usr/local/test/intel-bsp/build/tmp/work/core2-poky-linux/poky-image-minimal-live-1.0-r0/temp/log.do_bootimg.1106 for further information)

The kernel is being built, but not being found in sysroots by bootimg creation, although it exists in the kernel build:

trz@elmorro:/usr/local/test/intel-bsp/build/tmp/work/n450-poky-linux/linux-yocto-stable-2.6.34+git1+e1f85a470934a0cf6abde5d95533e74501822c6b_1+72ca49ab08b8eb475cec82a10049503602325791-r1/linux-n450-standard-build/arch/x86/boot$ ls -al bzImage
-rw-r--r-- 1 trz trz 4180896 2011-04-15 09:56 bzImage

So some commit since bernard seems to have caused this, need to dig into where...

Looks like it was this commit:

commit 3b49416fc7a7ee9bfe722f2e6089aa18df41dc58
Author: Darren Hart <dvhart@linux.intel.com>
Date:   Tue Mar 8 17:09:10 2011 -0800

    kernel/bbclass: rework kernel and module classes to allow for building out-of-tree modules
Comment 5 Darren Hart 2011-04-18 10:07:53 UTC
I'll have a look at this.
Comment 6 Darren Hart 2011-04-18 14:04:41 UTC
The following looks like a likely candidate.

-	install -m 0644 System.map $kerneldir/System.map-${KERNEL_VERSION}

I'll take a closer look at that and if other bits might be missing as well.

Sorry, I meant...

install -m 0644 ${KERNEL_OUTPUT} $kerneldir/${KERNEL_IMAGETYPE}

This fixed it, patch submitted to oe-core.

Fixed by http://git.pokylinux.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/commit/?id=ae440cd1b8e088ee197bbfa283ac257a3860ebcd (kernel: Copy over bzImage to sysroots during install)

VERIFY the bug.

Do you mean "I have verified the bug"? Or is this a statement that someone needs to go and verify the bug?

I meant "I have verified the bug". :-)
I'm pretty sure the bug was fixed by the commit and I don't see it in recent autobuilder logs.
