I'm not sure what you are trying to do here, but if you edit the .scc
files this will break the build, since the tools use mycustommachine-
standard.scc as the entry point to the patch/configuration process.

Without that the patches will not be applied to the right place, and
yes, they will break.

If you are trying to build tiny, you need to set the preferred provider
to linux-yocto-tiny, and adjust everything else accordingly.

Any proof? You mean you did all the aforementioned steps that I did and it compiled? I don't want to be rude, but I have already spend whole week trying to do anything basic with custom BSP without success. See below - even untouched result from yocto-bsp does not compile on morty.

pokyuser@a8cadc81c86d:/yocto/build$ yocto-bsp create mycustommachine powerpc

It's not like I'd make up a "works for me" .. I did this on master,
but since I make commits to all the tools in question, there are no
differences in this area between master and morty. I'll spin up a
morty branch build just to be sure.

This error is a function of the version checking of oe-core and what the
SRCREVs are set at.

The BSP tool is pinning itself at an older SRCREV, while the main kernel
recipe has moved on. That triggers this error.

You either need to build with AUTOREV, or put the following in your
bbappend to inhibit the check:

deltask kernel_version_sanity_check

I'm also trying this on a new machine, with a fresh morty clone. I'll update if this fails, or works .. + logs!

I said it backwards in my previous reply, it is still an AUTOREV versus the kernel tree issue, but it is the opposite.

The linux-yocto 4.8 tree marches forward, and the bsp tool is using AUTOREV, so it follows that march forward.

The morty branch has a linux-yocto with a recipe that set the version at 4.8.3, and you have the mismatch.

The fix is to remove the check, like I showed, or modify the version in your bbappend along with the AUTOREV .. or fix the SRCREV at 4.8.3.

I'll open an issue against the bsp tool for this mismatch that will pretty much always happen.

Marking as won't fix. There's a lot of different ways to trigger a patch failure, or a the version check. The checks and failures are expected in these scenarios.

If another use case pops up where the unmodified trees are failing to patch, we can do it under another bug, but the history on this one is muddled enough that I'm closing it off.
