Those files appear to have been removed, and 1.2.10 is present instead. Josh, can you try again with no mirrors or proxies? I'm I'm right then I guess the zlib recipe should download from what appears to be official mirror on sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/libpng/files/zlib/
The current version at http://zlib.net/zlib-1.2.10.tar.gz works. Both http://www.zlib.net/zlib-1.2.8.tar.xz and the canonical URL, wget http://zlib.net/zlib-1.2.8.tar.gz, are 404 not found so it looks like the project has deleted that release. http://downloads.yoctoproject.org/mirror/sources/zlib-1.2.8.tar.xz is available if we need that version exactly.
