rpmdeps is collecting dependancies for binary packages (bin_package) and do_package_qa throws a warning if deps are missing because "file-rdeps" is in WARN_QA. If RPM is in PACKAGE_CLASSES, smart will be intelligent enough to throw an error on do_rootfs (e.g. do_rootfs: Unable to install packages... smart returns -1). However, if we only have IPK in PACKAGE_CLASSES, we only get the QA warning, and binaries with missing dependancies are possibly installed on the target. I see two ways of fixing this: 1. Add file-rdeps to the list of ERROR_QA if inheriting from bin_package. (rather heavy handed) 2. Create a bin_validation class that specifically checks for these types of errors. (possibly using something like IMAGE_QA_COMMANDS) I'm leaning towards option 2.
