2.3 has the start of Vulkan support but it's not enabled by default (this also needs work in meta-intel) or tested (is there a Piglit for Vulkan?).
There's a conformance test suite in VK-GL-CTS which is based on the dEQP android testing system. It's unclear how useful it would be or how hard it would be to get running -- at least spirv-tools and glslang would be needed as dependencies. https://github.com/KhronosGroup/VK-GL-CTS
This is not going to happen (by me) in M1. I'm also not totally sure what we should do: the test suite would be nice but it doesn't look trivial ...
I'm setting the milestone to M2... but it's possible that the only thing that happens is adding a demo/test application which we didn't do in 2.3: The test suite feels quite tricky to get packaged and I haven't found anything else that would do the job of verifying a vulkan setup.
Sent a patchset that a) adds vulkan-demos (Sascha Willems collection) b) defines vulkan DISTRO_FEATURE Ross what exactly do you mean with "enabled by default"?
It looks like the lack of UPSTREAM_CHECK variables is causing sanity test failures: https://autobuilder.yocto.io/builders/nightly-oe-selftest/builds/373/steps/Running%20oe-selftest/logs/stdio
Yes, that was in mut and a v3 has been sent already.
vulkan patches are in oe-core. The patch to enable the distro feature in poky by default has been sent.
Status: Vulkan now builds for all architectures (although currently we only have drivers for intel), there's lots of test binaries for manual testing in vulkan-demos, and yocto/poky has enabled vulkan by default (with the xf86-video-intel caveat below) in poky commit 6016ec177af. So this is pretty much resolved... but I'll still have to take a closer look at xf86-video-intel: maintainer has explicitly disabled dri3 (unless runtime configuration is used to override that). I'm a little worried about just adding that config since I don't know if anyone tests it.
Where is DRI3 disabled and how does one turn it back on?
So thanks to Jussi we're in a pretty good state for 2.4. We're now frozen though so future steps for 2.5: 1) Enable DRI3 in xf86-video-intel (configure is trivial, verify its actually enabled at runtime) or 2) Drop xf86-video-intel from meta-intel and use -modesettings instead (see bug 12019) Most major distros have already done (2).
Moving to Maxin. Please coordinate the meta-intel parts with Cal (on CC).
Cal fixed https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12019 So, We can close this one.
