Robot Operating System (ROS) is a set of modules for robotics applications. Thanks to meta-ros (https://github.com/bmwcarit/meta-ros) you can add a wide range of ROS modules to your OS build. However adding your own ROS module is a manual task as recipetool does not generate a functional recipe when pointed at the source code. See https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/TipsAndTricks/Creating_Recipes_for_ROS_modules for how this can done manually and some guidance for extending recipetool.
Still ramping on Yocto environment and tooling structure, so can not commit to M2 timeline.
To enabled ROS 'catkin' recipes to be automatically generated by devtool/recipe tool, it requires: 1) New plugin for catkin added to the meta-ros layer https://github.com/mdhorn/meta-ros/tree/add-build-catkin 2) A single line patch where a line of code needs to be moved: http://lists.openembedded.org/pipermail/openembedded-core/2017-August/140437.html Currently waiting on the recipe tool patch change to be accepted. Customer feedback on this new plugin has been requested for testing. Once feedback is completed and the patch for recipetool is merged, I will create a single patch for meta-ros.
Poky change is staged: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/log/?h=ross/applyotron-6238
The plugin to enable this feature will be upstreamed to meta-ros once the required change to recipe tool have been completed. Paul Eggleton has the required changed queue for submission, but is coordinating with a few other recipetool changes. Wait for confirmation of the change to be submitted. Should this bug be moved to another Product?
Paul Eggleton has upstreaded the required fixes for recipetool into master branch: OE-Core rev: 1df60b09f7a60427795ec828c9c7180e4e52f98c OE-Core rev: 3bb979c13463705c4db6c59034661c4cd8100756 poky rev: b1f237ebd0d4180c5d23a0ecd9aaf7193c63a48a poky rev: a7baa47c876c7895499909731aaa451c6009610a The new plugin has had a Pull Request submitted to meta-ros: https://github.com/bmwcarit/meta-ros/pull/545
