Description Henry Bruce 2017-06-23 22:56:33 UTC
A number of developers new to Yocto Project have read the quick start guide but failed to notice the final section on building an image for Minnowboard.
This they are unaware that (a) core-image-base must be used to ensure all hardware features (i.e. loadable kernel modules) are enabled and (b) that meta-intel is the recommended BSP for Intel platforms. One reason may be that the guide is missing a table of contents.

Also note that Minnowboard Max has been discontinued and superseded by the Turbot.

So, I don't want a TOC in the QS. We can upgrade the example to not use Minnowboard Max however.

We can get some "directional" stuff in the second paragraph to guide the user to the larger areas of the QS. I would rather do that than add a TOC.

Hello Henry,

I went to the Source Repositories for YP and did not see a layer for minnowboard turbot. I went online to look around and found the following; https://minnowboard.org/tutorials/powering-on-minnowboardturbot

In order to update this minnowboard example with minnowboard turbot, do I need a layer for turbot?

The current example builds a core-image-base image for the minnowboard MAX. How do we differentiate this for Turbot?

Thanks!

Minnowboard Turbot has superseded Max and is hardware compatible so meta-intel layer can still be used for BSP.

I can see the cause of your confusion - Minnowboard web site was updated recently and no longer covers building with Yocto.

Thanks Henry,

In that case, I have gone through and changed "MAX" to "Turbot" in all cases. You should be able to view the changes at http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.4/yocto-project-qs/yocto-project-qs.html

I have also updated the Welcome section to highlight some key sections of the manual for easier navigation.

Check it out and let me know if you have additional changes.

Thanks!

Since no comments have come in on these changes for over a month, I am marking it RESOLVED and putting the doc flag to "Done".
